Loja is a colonial city, the capital of the province also called Loja. This city is located in the southern part of Ecuador. The center of the city has small cobbled streets, churches, and places with beautiful porches and patios. Its town squares are full of statues, and other remnants of its colonial past. This beautiful and peaceful city is one of the places that retirees or expatriates choose to form a new life abroad. Because Loja is in southern Ecuador, it lacks some of the problems associated with a large city. About the altitude, Loja has an elevation of 6,758 feet (2,060 meters) above sea level.
Loja is a place worth visiting, seeing and exploring. The climate is spring-like all year-round with average temperatures between 60° F and 70° F (15° C and 21° F).
Local holidays are Independence of Loja on November 18 and Foundation of Loja on December 8.
