Ingapirca Inca Ruins are the best-preserved ruins in Ecuador. Ingapirca means "Inka Pirka" in Quechua (Wall of the Inca). This archaeological discovery protects the memory of the Incas that once walked along the roads. They buried their dead in the cemetery and worshiped at the Temple of the Sun, also known as El Castillo (The Castle). Indeed, it is the most prominent building that remains. Located 50 mi. (80 km.) North of Cuenca. The closest city is Azogues. The nearest town has the name of Ingapirca, too. The average annual temperature is 54 °F (12 °C).
From Cuenca or Azogues, you can either join a package tour, drive yourself, or take public transportation. By bus, go to the terminal terrestre (bus station). There is always an early bus that goes all the way to the ruins and returns to the bus station in the afternoon. The bus ride costs $3.50 per person each way. Tours cost around $45 per person. Ingapirca Ruins are open daily, from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Outside the ruins, there is a small museum, included in the entrance fee. As well as an artisanal shop and public toilets. The entrance fee of $6 includes a free tour.
