Azogues is a small city, capital of Cañar. It is situated about 19 mi. (30 km.) north of Cuenca, 40-minute ride. Its full name is "San Francisco de Peleusí de Azogues". Azogues is a major exporter of Panama hats — you will find them all around the city. Also, known for its proximity to the Ingapirca Ruins. About the altitude, Azogues has an elevation of 8,261 feet (2,518 meters) above sea level.
Other attractions are the church of San Francisco de la Virgen de las Nubes — located on the small hill of El Calvario, east of the city — As well as the main plaza, and the marketplace located nearby it. About traditional food, potatoes are part of almost every dish. Mainly served with roast a guinea pig, fried pork, or roast chicken.
Climate is mild and generally warm year-round. The temperature typically varies from 50°F to 73°F (10°C to 23°C). There are only two seasons: rainy and dry. Dry season goes from June to December, while rainy season goes from January to May, but April is the rainiest month. Tourist travel year-round, although the best time to go to Azogues in Ecuador is from June until September.
