Geographical Regions of Ecuador

Ecuador has four geographical regions with beautiful natural landscapes:

Andes Mountains (Sierra) in the center.
Amazon Basin (Oriente) in the east.
Galápagos Islands (Insular) off the coast.
Pacific Coast (Costa) in the west.

Geography of Ecuador

Ecuador is located on the western side of South America, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and bordering Colombia in the north and Peru in the east and south. Ecuador's mainland is divided into three geographical regions – Pacific coast, Andean highlands, Amazon. The Galapagos Islands form the fourth zone. Amazon Basin (Oriente Region)

Oriente region, also known as the Amazon, is located in the eastern Ecuador. The Oriente region occupies a massive area covering almost half the country. It extends from the eastern slopes of the Andes into the Amazon basin.

Pacific Coast (Costa Region)

Pacific Coast consists of the low lying western portion of Ecuador. It extends from the Pacific coastline to the foothills of the Andes Mountains that lie to the east. This region has many beautiful beaches and small coastal communities.

Galápagos Islands is a region is located about 1000 km west of the Ecuadorian coast; frequently visited by tourist to enjoy its enchanted islands. The Galapagos Islands are famous for their endemic species, their remarkable marine life, and the studies made by Charles Darwin.
