The Galápagos Islands are Ecuador's main tourist attractions and are a protected nature reserve. Its official name is the "Archipiélago de Colón". It is a province located about 1000 kilometers west of the Ecuadorian coast. Its capital is Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The Galápagos Islands consists of 13 main islands and 17 islets. These islands are perched on a large lava plateau known as the Galápagos Platform. In fact, there are 13 volcanoes in the Galapagos Islands: Alcedo, Cerro Azul, Darwin, Ecuador, Fernandina, Genovesa, Marchena, Pinta, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Santiago, Sierra Negra, and Wolf.
The main destinations are the Galápagos National Park and the Marine Reserve. Galapagos Islands is a place that has picturesque lands, and bright crystalline waters. It homes exotic birds such as blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, and waved albatrosses. As well as unique creatures such as marine iguanas, Galapagos tortoises, and Galapagos penguins.
It has three airports. Seymour Airport on Baltra Island. San Cristobal Airport. And a small landing strip on Isabela Island. Flights to Galapagos usually leave in the morning, either from Quito or Guayaquil, and takes about 2.5 hours. From Quito, there is the Mariscal Sucre International Airport. While from Guayaquil, there is the Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport. Airlines providing service include TAME, LAN, and Avianca. Once visitors arrive. They pass through the National Park entrance. There is a $100 park entrance fee for international tourists and $25 for locals. Indeed, a must-do in your bucket list!
The climate is variable. There are two seasons in the islands: dry and rainy. The dry season is also the cooler one and runs from June to November 70°F (20–24°C). While the rainy season runs from December to June 80° F (26°-30°C).
A popular local holiday is the Provincialization of Galápagos on February 18.
