Quito

Quito is the capital of the Pichincha province, as well as is Ecuador's capital. Quito is nestled in a valley at the base of the Pichincha Volcano. It has an elevation of 9,350 ft. (2,850 m.) above sea level. Indeed, Quito is the highest capital city in the world. This city boasts one of the largest historic districts in Latin America. It has colonial architecture. By sure, Quito's old town is quite breathtaking — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. About the altitude, Quito has an elevation of ‎9,350 ft (2,850 m) above sea level.

To get a picture of Quito, for instance, imagine an area with cobblestone streets and houses typical of the Republican age. A place where you can walk beside block-long colonial mansions, remarkable cathedrals, and beautiful Catholic monasteries. The historic center of Quito warrants a full-day visit. Besides the historic district, the Middle of the World complex ( Mitad del Mundo) is another destination worth the visit. It has a monument marking the earth's equator. Also, there is a very educative museum right next to the complex.

The climate is cool and warm year-round. Average temperature 48°F to 66°F (10°C to 23°C). Driest months are from June to September. Hottest months are from October to December, great for hot-weather activities. It rains from October to April. Although, April is the rainiest month. The best time of year to visit Quito for warm-weather activities is from January to September. Popular activities are camping, hiking, mountain biking, trekking, and climbing.

Local holidays are Quito's Declaration of Independence on August 10 and Quito Foundation on December 6.
