Mitad del Mundo, "Middle of the world" in English, is a monument located in the parish of San Antonio in the city of Quito, Ecuador. This is approximately 16 mi. (26 km.) north of downtown Quito. It is well known because is located in the equator line or 0-degree latitude. The equator line divides the planet into the southern and northern hemisphere.
The Mitad del Mundo has parks, restaurants, shops, a planetarium, and the Solar Intiñan museum. The walkway up to the monument has some statues on each side of the road. To get to this tourist site you can take public transport near Amazonas street. Usually, buses that make a stop there have a sign on the front window that read "Mitad Del Mundo". If you are not sure, get information at the hotel reception or ask the bus driver or trolley. You can also take a taxi that will cost between $ 10 - $ 15 each way. Mitad del Mundo opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. Entrance fee is $5,00 adults $2,50 children.
