Quito is the capital of Ecuador. It is an incredible destination to visit, full of history and natural wonders very close to the city, but it has no beaches.  The closest beaches to Quito are on the Pacific coast. The nearest beach is Atacames, Esmeraldas. Esmeraldas is a province with beautiful beaches. Although, many locals (quiteños) prefer to travel a bit to the south and enjoy the beaches of Bahia de Caráquez or Manta in the province of Manabí. If you plan to go whale watching, visit Puerto López, also in Manabí. This town is 4 to 6 hours away. Best time to see whales is in October.

Quito is well connected to the rest of Ecuador by a network of buses. Some of the best beaches in this route are listed below, in no particular order.
