Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is located in the Putumayo Canton in the Sucumbíos province and in the Aguarico canton in the Orellana Province. This protected area is part of the Amazon region of Ecuador. It lies at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The reserve is a great example of the ecosystem. In fact, Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve provides home and habitat for countless plants, animals, and more than 515 species of birds. In particular, three rivers such as the Cuyabeno, Aguarico, and San Miguel flow through the reserve, and its lakes. Along rivers and lakes, you can find both land and aquatic species. Visitors may see anacondas, ocelots, river dolphins, piranha, and more. In addition, the reserve houses some indigenous communities such as Sionas, Secoyas, Kichwas, Shuar, and Cofanes.
From Quito, there are two options to get to the Cuyabeno Reserve. By plane, a 25-minute flight on a Tame airline to LagoAgrio (about $130). By bus, 7-8 hours bus to Lago Agrio ($12). From the town, it takes 1.5 hours to the Cuyabeno Reserve.
