Isabela Island is the largest island of the Galápagos, Ecuador. It has an area of 4,640 square km. and length of 100 km. almost four times larger than Santa Cruz, the second largest of the archipelago. It was named after Queen Isabella of Spain. Isabela was formed more than 1 million years ago by the merger of 6 volcanoes: Alcedo, Cerro Azul, Darwin, Ecuador, Sierra Negra, and Wolf.
Some tourist attractions to visit in Isabela Island are Puerto Villamil, Galápagos' capital; Sierra Negra, an active volcano with giant tortoises; Pearl Shell, great for snorkeling; Wolf volcano, the islands' highest peak with unique shape; Wall of Tears, a historic wall built by prisoners.
