Yacuri National Park is a protected area. Located southeast of Ecuador, on the border with Peru, between the provinces of Loja and Zamora Chinchipe. The park protects moorland, cloud forests, and dry scrub. The reserve has over 46 high-altitude lakes. Visitors usually take excursions to the Black Lagoon, the Yacurí Lagoon, the Ducks' Lagoon, or the Inca trail. All of these places, located next to a high mount called Peaks (Picachos). Yacuri National Park homes different animal species such as the spectacled bear, the tapir, and the chonto. As well as more than 200 plant species.
To get to the Yacuri National Park from Quito, Guayaquil and other cities you must get yourself to the city of Loja. Once there, take the road to Amaluza, 75 mi. (120 km.) paved and 19 mi. (30 km.) unsealed. From Amaluza you can access to Lagunas Negras (take an unsealed road that leads to the Jimbura parish 20 mi. (18 km). About 9 mi. (15 km.) after Jimbura. You will reach the entry checkpoint to the Laguna Yacuri. Take an unsealed road that leads to the Consapamba neighborhood. Continue on until you reach the Association El Arbolito. Once there, you will see the entrance. Look for the El Arbolito trail.
