Local Holidays

  • February 12 - Galápagos Province Day, "Día de la Provincia de Galápagos" in Spanish. This marks the date in 1832 when Ecuador annexed the Galapagos Islands as part of its territory.

National Holidays

  • January 1 - New Year's Day (Año Nuevo)
  • February or March - Carnival (Carnaval). The date varies each year and is based on the liturgical calendar, on the weekend closest to the New Moon, it extends Monday and Tuesday.
  • March or April - Easter and Holy Week (Semana Santa). Actual dates for Holy Week varies based on the liturgical calendar.
  • Good Friday (Viernes Santo)
  • Easter Sunday (Pascua/Domingo de Pascua)
  • May 1 - International Workers' Day (Día del Trabajo, Primero de Mayo)
  • May 24 - Battle of Pichincha (Batalla de Pichincha)

  • July 25 -  Guayaquil Founder's Day (Fundacion de Guayaquil)
  • August 10 - Declaration of Independence of Quito (Primer Grito de Independencia)
  • October 9 - Independence of Guayaquil (Independencia de Guayaquil)
  • October 12 - Columbus Day (Día de la Raza)
  • November 2 - All Souls' Day  or Day of the Dead (Día de los Difuntos, Día de Muertos)
  • November 3 - Independence of Cuenca (Independencia de Cuenca)
  • December 25 - Christmas Day (Día de Navidad)
  • December 31 - New Years Eve (Fin de año or nochevieja)
