San Gabriel is a magical town located in the Carchi province, northern Ecuador. This is about 43 miles (70 km) from Tulcán and 75 miles (121 km) northeast from Quito. In 1992, San Gabriel was declared by UNESCO as "National Heritage", for the colonial facade of its buildings. It should be noted that many historical houses were rebuilt to preserve its colonial art.
San Gabriel has routes for spiritual, heritage, and natural tourism. It is also known as the city of "Eternal Spring" for its irregular topography with undulations and flat areas where many crops are found which creates a beautiful and picturesque landscape. Nearby attractions include Bosque de Los Arrayanes, El Salado Lagoon, Paluz Waterfall, and the Lady of Peace Grotto.
