The Illinizas are a pair of volcanic mountains, their peaks are covered with glaciers. Located 55 km (34 mi) south of Quito, Ecuador. The Illinizas used to be a complete volcano with a single crater, but eventually, they split into two. Iliniza Sur is the sixth-highest volcano in Ecuador. It is located at a height of 5,248 meters (17,268 feet), has a top regularly covered by snow. While Iliniza Norte is the eighth highest mountain in the country, its height is 16,818 feet (5,126 meters).
The Ilinizas give life to the Toachi, San Pedro and Pilaton rivers.
