Zumbahua is an indigenous town located in Cotopaxi, approximately 59 mi (95 km) from Quito, Ecuador. It is known due to its proximity to the Quilotoa Lagoon, only 9 mi (14 km) north of Zumbahua. Geographically, the town closest to Zumbahua is Pujilí. To get to Zumbahua you must go up a road full of curves, some of them very steep and closed. It is recommended to travel early, in your own car, by joining a tour or bus. From the village of Pujilí, the journey is 30 minutes uphill. Some tourists go by bicycle or on foot, in this case, bear in mind Zumbahua has an altitude of 11,483 ft (3,500 meters), this challenge can take several hours.
Some tourists spend the day in Zumbahua before or after visiting Quilotoa. Another attraction is the Saturday fair. On that day a colorful market opens where artisans sell handmade crafts. The houses in Zumbahua were traditionally huts, but in recent years, these have been replaced by cement and metal houses.
