Achupallas is part of the Alausí canton, in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador. Achupallas is a peaceful city famous for the Inca trail. The trail crosses the Tres Cruces sector, as well as the Culebrillas lagoon. The final destination is the ruins of Ingapirca in Cañar. During the time of the Incas, the Achupallas sector was a place of rest and recreation, which is why thermal baths and gardens were built, as well as a temple in the sun. Achupallas is named after an Andean plant. Achupallas is a Quechua word that means "Princess of the royal palm."
Among the main festivities of Acupallas are the San Juan Festival, June 24 of each year. This party is enjoyed with dances and typical parades. About traditional food, it is common to serve roasted guinea pig with cooked potatoes.
