San Pablo a lake formed by the water discharged by the waterfall Peguche. Located right at the foot of Imbabura volcano. 2.5 mi. (4 km.) west of Otavalo, Ecuador. During the Yamor festival, communities gather to celebrate an open water swimming event. Around the San Pablo lake, there are indigenous villages, rushes, and green fields. Recreational activities include hiking, biking, walking, and riding horses.
San Pablo lake is home to some aquatic species such as herons and ducks. It also serves as a resting place for migrating birds. In fact, it is a place for bird-watching. There is no admission fee to access the lake. Although, there are some hotels and restaurants overlooking the lake.
To get here from Otavalo or Ibarra, by car take the Panamericana road E35 South to San Pablo. But must take the exit to Eugenio Espejo. By public transportation, take a bus to San Pablo, in the terminal terrestre (bus station.) The average temperature is 53°F (12°C.)
