Otavalo

Otavalo is an indigenous city, surrounded by volcanoes. Located 68 mi. (110 km.) from the north of Quito, Ecuador — about a two-hour bus drive. — Otavalo is known as the "Intercultural Capital Ecuador" due to its diversity. Its main attraction is the Peguche waterfall, located inside the Protected Forest of Peguche. Other local attraction is the Otavalo Condor Park; and if you are willing to travel a little farther, visit the Mojanda Lakes. About the altitude, Otavalo has an elevation of 8,307 feet (2,532 meters) above sea level.

Besides Otavalo's natural spots, a place you should know is the handicrafts market, this outdoor craft market receives many tourists throughout the year. Also, known as "Plaza de Los Ponchos" or "Centenario Market". You can visit the Otavalo market to buy handmade ponchos or tapestries. Also, find carved wooden pieces, paintings, musical instruments, and more. The market opens every day from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
